Online therapy or teletherapy is providing therapy through a live video connection, over the internet. You receive the same treatment as you would in person, it’s just done through a computer (or another device, such as a tablet or phone). If you’ve ever used Skype on your computer or FaceTime on your iPhone, you’ve used the same type of technology teletherapy uses. Our practice uses a specific program to implement teletherapy because it is HIPAA compliant and secure (unlike FaceTime or Skype). Dr. O'Keefe can help you become comfortable with the program.
There are several benefits to using online therapy:
1. Privacy - have an appointment from the comfort of your own home
2. Saves time - no need to travel to/from an appointment
3. Convenience - some people prefer to have an appointment during their lunch break or other available time during the day
Lastly, there are clients who simply cannot attend an in person appointment. People with extremely demanding work schedules. Parents of children with special needs who cannot easily find a regular caregiver. Clients who have physical challenges, which make travel more difficult.
There is always the option to use a combination of both in person and online therapy services.
